Walk from Godmanchester to Hemingford Abbots

Walking across Portholme can get a bit wet and muddy during the winter this walk is great all year round with roads & pavements all the way. It’s a 5 mile round trip to The Axe & Compass and back.

Although the start of this route doesn’t lead you through the most picturesque parts of Huntingdonshire it’s worth it when you get to the Common and into Hemingford Abbots.

DIRECTIONS

From our office head right along Cambridge Street away from Huntingdon and past The White Hart Pub. Carry on under the A14 and round past the allotments. Turn left into Cow Lane and follow it to the bottom where you can turn right onto the common. The footpath winds it’s way to the far end of Common Lane in Hemingford Abbots and from here you can walk straight into the centre of Hemingford where you’ll find the thatched 15th Century Pub, The Axe & Compass.

You can head back the way you have come but there are plenty of other options, take a walk down River Lane, half way along Common Lane and it leads you out to the river and meadow that separates Hemingford and Houghton.
