The Exhibition Golf Society’s fundraising for Macmillan

Gatehouse Estates, Godmanchester are happy to support the Exhibition Golf Society and their annual fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This Godmanchester society was established in 1997 and has raised over £45,000 for Macmillan with various golf and social events. They have rowed for 24hrs on the Ouse, lost weight and eaten Curry all for Macmillan.

There latest fundraising stunt involves a  non-golfer offering to have his head and moustache shaved off if the society can raise over £1100 by the end of January.

Dave Newell is well known in Godmancheter for his 1970’s porn star looks and similarity to the guys from the 118118 TV adverts.

You can help Dave reach £1100 by poping into the Exhibition in Godmanchester and donating or logging onto www.justgiving.com/barcardidave or click on the widget below.

The Exhibition Golf Society Godmanchester

The Exhibition Golf Society was founded in April 1997 and based at The Exhibition Pub in Godmanchester, The Exhibition Golf Society has grown to a substantial number of members and guest players.

The  aim of the golf society is to provide opportunity to play friendly but competitive golf, for newcomers as well as experienced golfers. We also host a wide variety of social fundraising events that often have nothing to do with Golf, in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. You can find information on upcoming golf & social events and our fundraising to date, right here on this site.

There is at least one golf event per month and the day varies to cater for all Members’ needs.  After the event we usually meet in The Exhibition Pub for refreshments, presentations and after match post-mortems. An annual subsidised golf weekend is arranged by the society for Members.

We always welcome new players, so if you fancy becoming a Member or just taking part in our events, call Kulbir Singh on 07717 758819 or e-mail him

Proposed Godmanchester Flood Alleviation Scheme

Two public exhibitions are being held by the Environment Agency next week for local people to comment on the proposed design of the Godmanchester flood alleviation scheme before planning permission is applied for.

The public exhibitions will give the community the opportunity to view the proposed designs, which incorporate many of the points raised during the consultation stages in 2006 and 2008.

Agency staff will be on hand to answer questions along with design and environmental consultants who will be able to provide further details of the proposals and answer any queries.

The public exhibitions will be held at the Queen Elizabeth School, Post Street, Godmanchester on:

Friday 17 September (12pm to 7pm)
Sunday 19 September (11am to 5pm)

The flood alleviation scheme will reduce the flood risk to 560 homes and businesses in Godmanchester, which in turn will help to reduce risk to life and avoid the stress, trauma and disruption that is associated with major flooding.

Ian Dodson, Environment Agency project manager, said: “We are holding the public exhibitions for local residents and those interested in finding out more about the scheme. The designs have considered previous feedback from the 2006 and 2008 consultation events. We have also liaised with Godmanchester Town Council and Huntingdonshire District Council in drawing these designs together.

“The effective flood defences have been designed in keeping with the landscape, heritage and character of this historic town. The scheme is to protect the residents of Godmanchester from flooding and we are keen for them to see the designs before the proposals go to planning.”

For more information on the public exhibition or queries about the scheme please contact Ian Dodson at the Environment Agency on 01733 464316.
