Walk from Pub to Pub in Godmanchester, Hemingford, Houghton, Wyton, Hartford, Huntingdon and back to Godmanchester.

We start at The Exhibition Pub in Godmanchester just because it is closest to us but you could start at any of the pubs mentioned. Remember to Drink Responsibly!

This circuit is approx. 7 1/4 miles long.

From The Exhibition we head down Earning Street to The White Hart Pub. From here head out of Godmanchester on Cambridge Road under the A14, past the allotments and left down Cow Lane.

At the end of Cow Lane is gated access onto the common that links Godmanchester with Hemingford Abbots, there is a footpath all the way across and onto Common Lane. If you walk right to the end of Common Lane and into the centre of the village you’ll find the Axe & Compass, a 15th Century thatched cottage.

If it’s more about the walk and less about the pubs don’t go to the end of Common Lane turn left onto River Lane, if you have visited the Axe & Compass for a cold pint, the toilet of a coffee then head back down Common Lane and turn right into River Lane and over the river onto the meadow.

This meadow has a path across but can get a bit wet in the winter, it links Hemingford and Houghton. If this is your first visit to Houghton you are in for a treat as the pathway leads over Houghton Lock and then under Houghton Mill.

From Houghton Mill you can walk up into the centre of Houghton and onto the Old Market Square and home to The Three Horseshoes Inn. From here you want to walk away from the square and round to your left on Huntingdon Road into the adjoining village of Wyton where soon on your left you’ll find The Three Jolly Butchers.

Once you have finished here carry on up Huntingdon Road where it’ll joint the main Huntingdon and St. Ives road, heading towards Huntingdon will soon bring you to Hartford Marina which has a bar & restaurant.

From Hartford Marina there is a new footpath that runs alongside the guided busway route past The Grove and onto Old Houghton Road, Hartford. Once you have joined the main road again, head left towards Huntingdon and the Ring Road and you’ll soon see The Barley Mow on your right.

Opposite The Barley Mow there is a street called The Hollow which will take you down to Hartford Church and a pathway that will lead you all the way along the river all the way back to Huntingdon Riverside Park and The Old Bridge Hotel.

Over the foot bridge and into Godmanchester the Black Bull will be on you left and then further into Godmanchester opposite our office you’ll find some public toilets!
